Why It Matters
Accessibility Is a Legal Duty and Good Business
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) sets accessibility standards for organizations in Ontario. For websites, the standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA.
Beyond the law, an accessible website works better for everyone: people using screen readers or keyboards, older visitors, people on phones in bright sunlight, and Google, which rewards clear, well-structured pages.

Who Must Comply
Does AODA Apply to Your Website?
A summary of the key website and reporting requirements. Always confirm your obligations with the Government of Ontario or legal counsel.
50+ employees
Private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees in Ontario must make public websites and web content meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA (with limited exceptions). The deadline was January 1, 2021.
20+ employees
Private and non-profit organizations with 20 or more employees must file an accessibility compliance report with the province. The next report is due December 31, 2026.
Public sector
Designated public sector organizations have their own, earlier website accessibility requirements under the same regulation.
What We Do
From Audit to Ongoing Compliance
Accessibility audit
Automated scans plus manual testing with keyboard only and screen readers, against WCAG 2.1 AA (which includes everything in 2.0 AA).
Plain-language report
Every issue with where it is, who it affects, how serious it is and how to fix it, prioritized so you fix the biggest barriers first.
Remediation
We fix the issues on your website: contrast, headings, forms, alt text, keyboard access, focus order and more.
Accessible rebuild
When fixing costs more than rebuilding, we build a new site that is accessible from the first wireframe.
Statement & feedback
An accessibility statement and a feedback process, so visitors can request help or alternative formats.
Ongoing monitoring
New content can introduce new barriers. Our care plans include regular accessibility scans and fixes.

A Word on Overlays
Accessibility Widgets Are Not a Shortcut
Overlay toolbars and plugins that promise instant compliance cannot fix problems in your site's underlying code, such as missing form labels, poor heading structure or keyboard traps. Many accessibility experts and disabled users report they can make things worse.
Real compliance comes from fixing the site itself. That is what we do, and we show you exactly what changed.

Questions
AODA Questions
Can't find your answer? Ask us. A real person reads every message and replies within one business day.
Is my business required to have an accessible website?
If you are a private or non-profit organization with 50 or more employees in Ontario, your public website must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA under the AODA's Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, with some exceptions. Smaller organizations have other AODA duties. Please confirm your specific obligations with the province or legal counsel.
What is the difference between WCAG 2.0 and 2.1?
WCAG 2.1 adds criteria for mobile, low vision and cognitive accessibility on top of 2.0. Meeting 2.1 AA means you also meet 2.0 AA, so we test to 2.1 AA.
Does an accessibility plugin or overlay make my site compliant?
No. Overlays cannot fix the underlying code. Compliance requires fixing the site itself.
How much does an accessibility audit cost?
It depends on the size of the site and how many unique templates it uses. We scope the audit after a free call and give you a fixed price.
Is this legal advice?
No. We are web developers and accessibility practitioners, not lawyers. We help you meet the technical standard; for legal interpretation, consult the Government of Ontario or a lawyer.
